The Weeknd is making a massive statement with his new album Dawn FM. The album dropped on January 7, and fans have been tuning in to the Toronto crooner’s unique sound, leading to him accomplishing a significant milestone on DSPs.

According to Spotify, The Weeknd has surpassed 500 million streams on its platform in 2022 alone. He is currently locked in at 705 million streams as of Saturday (January 15) and leading the pack over artists such as Taylor Swift (442 million streams), Bad Bunny (433 million streams), BTS (330 million streams) and Drake (313 million streams).

The large number in The Weeknd’s streams come from his new album Dawn FM. The XO singer didn’t sell physical copies of it in its first week, so the only way people could listen to the project was through streaming.

Spotify reported Abel Tesfaye grabbed 426 million streams off Dawn FM in its debut week. After a very close race, Dawn FM debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 154,000 album-equivalent units. The album fended off tough competition from Gunna’s DS4EVER, which came in at a close second with 151,000 units.

The Weeknd is looking to repeat the same success he achieved with 2020’s After Hours. The album broke the record for the most global pre-adds for an album in Apple Music history. It also stayed atop the charts for four consecutive weeks in 2020, the first album to do so since Drake’s 2018 effort Scorpion.
